Missing your Sulcabrush? Here are the closest replacements.

The original Sulcabrush is discontinued. It is no longer being manufactured, and leftover third-party stock is gone or unreliable.

We sold the original for years. There is no perfect clone — the old tips were shorter, denser, and firmer than most end-tuft brushes sold today. These are the closest tools we carry for the same job: cleaning along the gumline and around implants, crowns, bridges, braces, and the last molar.

Important: New tips do not screw onto an old Sulcabrush handle. You will need a new handle.

2. Closest two-ended shape: Lactona Double-Ended

$4.95 handle  ·  $7.95 / 5 heads

Made in the Netherlands. Two differently angled ends on one handle — the same idea as the original inside / outside design.

Bristles run a little longer and softer than the original; some customers trim them slightly.

Not sure? Order both. A handle + refill pair is still a small order, and you will know within a week which feel you prefer.

How to use an end-tuft / sulcus brush

Same method as the original Sulcabrush.

  1. Place the tuft at the edge of the gumline, where the tooth and gum meet.
  2. Follow the wavy gumline from tooth to tooth. Add a small circle between the teeth.
  3. Repeat on the tongue side.
  4. Use the more sharply angled end (or the “inside” end, if you have one) behind the last molar.
  5. Replace the tip when the bristles go from a point to an umbrella shape — usually every 1–3 months. Keep the handle.

This is a gumline tool. It does not replace floss or an interdental brush that goes through the contact. Many people use both.

What customers who used the original told us

“I’ve been trying to find a good replacement for the Sulca brush for over a year and I finally found it. Thank you!”
“Finally found something to replace the now defunct Sulcabrush.”
“I was looking for a brush to replace the Sulcabrush my dentist provided… This one comes the closest that I have tried. The others have been too soft and flimsy.”

One customer measured the old Sulcabrush tips at about 9 mm, TePe at about 11 mm, and Lactona at about 12 mm. The extra length makes some replacements flex more than the original. That is why we still point firm-feel shoppers to TePe Medium first.

We would rather tell you that nothing is identical than oversell a “perfect match.”

FAQ

Is Sulcabrush still being made?

No. The manufacturer stopped production. Pages that still list it are leftover or out of stock.

What is the closest replacement?

TePe Interspace Medium for bristle feel. Lactona double-ended for the two-sided handle.

Will these tips fit my old Sulcabrush handle?

No. Plan on a new handle.

Why do the new brushes feel softer?

The original used a short, dense, firm tuft. Most current end-tuft brushes use longer, softer filaments. TePe Medium is the closest we have found.

Does the GUM 642 have replaceable heads?

No. GUM 642 is a complete brush. If you want replaceable tips, choose TePe, Lactona, or Paro Type F.

Is this the same as an interdental / proxy brush?

No. A sulcus or end-tuft brush cleans along the gumline and around dental work. An interdental brush goes between teeth. Use the one your dentist recommended; many patients need both.

What’s the difference between the Piksters Focus brushes?

Curvie Focus is the compact everyday end-tuft. Forward Focus is built for extra reach around braces, retainers, and crooked teeth. Reverse Focus is shaped for the back of the front teeth, splints, and implant bars. They are specialist picks — not the closest overall Sulcabrush clones.

How often should I replace the tip?

When the bristles mushroom. For most people that is every 1–3 months.

Do you ship in the United States?

Yes. Free shipping over $35; $4.95 under that.
